Obituary
John Marin Toana, 86, of Greenwood passed away September 27, 2015. He was born May 24, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN to Marin S. and Zenovia (Rogozia) Toana Potcova. John worked for his parents at their restaurant and tavern for several years before serving in Korea in the 11th Evac Unit. He then went on to work as an elevator contractor for the I.U.E.C. Local #34 for 29 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Brookside Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #500 and Murat Shrine. John was a devoted member of Sts. Constantine and Elena Romanian Orthodox Church where he served for many years on the parish council, holding many offices including president. John was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 9 years, Blogarodna (Dimitroff) Toana, who passed away in 1973 and brother, George Toana. He is survived by his sons, Frank (Beverly) Lambert and Zachary (Tanya) Toana; daughter, Stephanie (David) Zablo; grandchildren, Corey Elliott, Bryan Toana, Shane Townsend, Zachary Zablo, Alexandra Zablo and Isabel Zablo; great grandchild, Kendall Davis; sister in law, Sandra Toana; nephew, Mike Toana and niece, Marina (Ed) Delporte. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2 from 4 pm – 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 3 at 1 pm in Sts. Constantine and Elena Romanian Orthodox Church, 3237 W. 16th St., Indpls. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made to: Sts. I am so sorry for the Tribute Family and your loss; I recently lost my Mom. I have found death to leave me with a feeling of helplessness. May I leave you this word of encouragement that has helped me? The Bible says at 1 Corinthians 15: 26 that God hates death, and shows it to be an enemy. He has "a yearning" to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection. He longs to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again. -Job 14:14, 15. My sincere condolences.
