Obituary
Joseph F. Brickler, 85, passed away August 9, 2016. He was born September 9, 1930 to Herman J. and Anna C. (Donahoe) Brickler. Joe and his beloved wife, Jean, were married 65 years. He was a father of eight, grandfather of 15, and great grandfather of 12. Joe and Jean were members of St. Christopher Catholic Church and longtime residents of Brownsburg, IN. He worked for Wishard Hospital for 37 years retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1953. Joe enjoyed good food, woodworking, playing euchre and socializing with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Jean (Pearl); children, Joe (Brenda), Dan, Jeanette, Martha (Rusty) Parker, Sarah (E. John II) Schneider, Carol Miller, Mary (Michael) Osburn and Emily Kempski. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Ubelhor; brother, Thomas J. Brickler; and grandson, John Brickler. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 West 16th St., Speedway, IN, 46224

Joe and I go back several years thanks to the South Central Association for Clinical Microbiology of which he was one of the founders of the organization. Joe was an outstanding Clinical Microbiologist and an expert in Mycobacateria tuberculosis. He taught me much and I will forever grateful for his mentoring and friendship. My fellow colleagues will miss him greatly but are thankful that he touched our lives and had a major impact on our careers.
I often referred to him as Rev. Joe Brickler, due to his preaching to us on how to be good clinical microbiologists. He was one of a kind and I extend my deepest sympathy to his family.
