Obituary
ALFORD, Carl Alvin - AKA “Old Blue”, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the age of 88. Born on October 8, 1929 to Charles A. and AnnaBelle (Vance) Alford, Carl lived in Indianapolis until he was two. AnnaBelle then moved with Carl to Southern California, where he was raised. Carl attended San Pedro High School then enlisted in the Navy, serving part of his time with the Navy on the USS St. Paul. After his discharge from the Navy, Carl was a semi-driver, working for Golden Bear Produce and Consolidated Freight before retiring at the age of 67.
Carl was a devoted to the love of his life, Irene “Sammie” Pasquale, whom he married on June 24, 1961. They lived in Yucaipa, California for most of their marriage. At the age of 35, Carl was reunited with his father and met the siblings he didn't know he had. Carl had a wry sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes on people. A little rough around the edges, Carl was known for acting like he didn't like you, but deep down you knew he did. One of his nieces had this to say about him: “Most would say he was a stubborn man but to me he was always loving and honest.”
Carl was know for his love for racing midget cars and for being a Ham Radio Operator, an interest he shared with his wife. He was owner of a Condor Connection Repeater on Big Bear Mountain in Southern California. An Extra Class Ham Radio Operator, WB6RUF is now a “silent key.” Carl was also a long-time member of the America Legion, and an avid bowler in his younger days. He and Sammie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2011 to be closer to family.
Carl is survived by his half-sister, Margaret Turner; his half-brothers, Tom (Donna) Alford and Jim (Cindy) Alford; 12 nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews too numerous to count; as well a handful of faithful friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Sammie, his parents Charles Alford and AnnaBelle Manlove, his step-sister Beulah Elliott, and his beloved poodle, Princess.
There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 3:00 pm, at Washington Park North Cemetary, 2702 Kessler Boulevard, Indianapolis, with Pastor Paul Slagle officiating.
