Obituary
Mary E. Smith, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 4, 2021. Mary was born on January 14, 1934 in Providence, KY to Narley and Vada Burton. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, LaMoine (Smitty) and sons Danny, Jimmy, Sammy and Steve Smith, her parents, beloved brother and wife, James and Delpha (Baker) Burton and Sister Edna (Burton) Shoulders. Mary was a mighty woman of Christ and was a faithful member of Bethel Family Worship Center. She loved Jesus and shared the good news whenever she could. Her faith was strong! It carried her through the deaths of 4 sons and she believed for her healing to the very end. Mary was a waitress at Hoosier Pete Restaurant during its heyday in the 60's and 70's, after which she worked at Bob Evans Restaurant on Rockville Road for another 10 years. She retired in 1994 to take care of Smitty after he was diagnosed with cancer, but cancer couldn't keep him down and she soon returned to the workforce as a Pharmacy Technician for CVS where she worked until 2018. At the age of 84, health issues forced her to retire permanently. Mary's family was her whole life and she was our rock. We were so blessed to have had her with us for 87 years and we will miss her every day for the rest of our lives. Mary is survived by son Tommy and wife Theresa Smith, daughter and husband Vanessa and Bill Crow, daughters-in-law Teresa Smith (Danny), and Barb Smith (Sammy), grandchildren, great and great-great, Tammy, Alex & Elizabeth Cvetkovich, Lillie Browne, Karlie Bishop, Treyton & Elliana Lowe, Larkin Bryant. Daniel, Beth, Ayden, Cheyanne, Danni & Hank Smith, Faith Lawson. Mathew Smith & Tori Price, Samantha Smith, Sadie McQuery & Grace Houseknecht. Brian, Kiersten, Bryce, Shane & Mia Leigh, Lil Tommy, Nicholas, Tara Smith & Cyndi Ingle. Sammy, Kyle, Ryan, Waylon Smith, Alivia Iannotti, Dylan Crow and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN. A funeral service will also be held in the mortuary on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Floral Park Cemetery. The Carpenter Family extends our most sincere condolences to Mary's entire family. Mary was always there for us when we would need to go to CVS for our prescriptions. She took great care in greeting all customers and she became our dear friend. We would always try to look her up when we would visit the store.
Mary has touched our hearts in so many ways! Prayers and love to the family during this time.
