Obituary
Jacquelyn Loretta Markiewicz was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 29,1933 to Eva Moskowitz. Five years later Eva married Pedro “Peter” Neira, He loved and adopted Jacquelyn. The family of three moved to Buffalo after the war.
Her childhood was challenging in Buffalo due to her Mothers chronic health issues and Jewish ethnicity. Some children were not allowed to play with her.
Her diploma was earned from Girls Vocational High School where she majored in food service.
During that time she met Norbert Markiewicz, joined the Catholic church, and they married in June of 1953.They had 2 children Norine (Butch) Chastain and Gene (Amy).
Both of her parents died young, her Dad 1957, her Mom 1961. The marriage with Norbert dissolved in 1967.
Jacquelyn was a woman ahead of her time.Brave enough to get herself and her children out of a bad situation, then made her own way to support that new life. After applying for jobs in different cities,got hired in food service at the Indianapolis airport and moved with her kids to Indiana where she was able to purchase and live in 2 different homes.
A great source of happiness was attending a performance by “the gene markiewicz band" .You could hear her above the crowd cheering him on. He would say “That's my Mom” She was always so proud.
In 2013, when Jacquelyn was 80, she retired and moved in with Norine and Butch where she lived until moving to Hooverwood. The only stipulation to the merger of households was she could only bring 100 bears. She had 500 bears!
She lived by example, always had faith, she KNEW God would provide. Church was always important in her years as a parent. She was a long time member of the St. Christopher's Community in Speedway (where she got the nickname "Pickles") and a member of Brownsburg Inclusive Catholic Community.
Because of the constant outpouring of love and support from visitors to hospice at Hooverwood staff thought she had a huge family.
What they saw was some family and lots of Framily.
Jacquelyn's family includes her children & their spouses. Three grandchildren: Wendy(Tony) Zishka, Andrew(Kaleigh)Markiewicz and Molly Markiewicz. Four step grandchildren: Rebecca(Andrew)Russell, Sam Russell, Donald Chastain and Garrett Chastain(deceased). Two Great granddaughters: Kaitlyn(Richard)Crow, Kiera(Conor Sweely)Chastain and 2 Great great grandsons Ricky & Danny Crow.
She loved and was loved by her Markiewicz family in Western NY. Gary(Mary)Markiewicz, Dolores Gichriese, Karen Markiewicz, Ray(Barb)Markiewicz (deceased), all their children and grandchildren.
Her cousins include Ellen Henry, Linda Kanaly, Melvin Most & their families. She was especially close to her cousin Bernie Most who nicknamed her “Jackiebear”. He sent many of her bears and musical stuffed animals. She loved receiving her surprises from Amazon! All Jackie's cousins were an important part of her life including Bernie's sons Glenn (Lisa) and Eric (deceased) wife Naomi and their families.
There were also many dogs, granddogs and grandcats that she loved. Most recently Rocco and his cousin Shadow were “Grandma's boys”
Her sleuth of framily includes the entire Choban clan, her Godsons Troy and Bradley, Jake and especially Christi with whom she had a mother/daughter like relationship.
The Allen/Combs family love her and she loved them all, especially Warren, her game buddy.
Greg and Debbie will always be Jackie's favorite children(wink,wink)
She loved The CCH Adventures members: Mo& Steve, Deb& Greg, Norine & Butch dearly. She camped and shared many adventures with them all until last year!
It would take several more pages to list everyone in her framily. Just know she loved you all dearly.
