Obituary
David Morales, 71, of Speedway, Indiana was well-loved by those who had the honor to know him. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 17, 2026 in the early morning and welcomed into heaven by loved ones who had gone before him. He was born on June 30, 1954, the seventeenth child of Carlotta (Soto) and Felix Morales. He had several different jobs over the course of his life. He started out as a busboy at Capri Restaurant but spent most of his career working assembly for General Motors; he started at Chevrolet then later worked for Allison Transmission for 32 years and retired in 2009. The joke was he could probably build a transmission blindfolded but couldn't work a cell phone. He loved spending time with family and friends, going to concerts, car shows, and enjoyed all things racing – especially the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400. He was a loyal fan to all his home teams, he proudly cheered for the Colts, Pacers, Indians, Boilermakers, the Fighting Irish, and even the Hoosiers. He also cheered for “Da Bears” - he was a fan before the Colts located to Indy and the Michigan Wolverines – he liked to say, “their logo is an ‘M' for Morales”. No matter where he was three things were for certain; laughing was guaranteed, a cold Miller Lite was in hand, and he was always there for you when you needed him - you might have to call him twice in a row for him to pick up the phone, but you knew you could count on him and never asked for anything in return. If you did ask if he needed anything or how he was doing, his reply was always “I'm fine”. To many, he was known by “Mo”, but to one lucky girl, he was simply known as “dad”, then later promoted to “Papa Mo”. He had one daughter, Lindsi, with Darlene (Wood) and three grandchildren; Caden, Carsen, and Carter Piatt. He loved them more than words can describe and would often tell them, “I love you more”. He is survived by his daughter: Lindsi (Morales) Piatt (Damien); grandchildren: Caden, Carsen, and Carter Piatt; siblings: Juanita (Morales) Settecasi, Jesse Morales (Renee), and Gloria (Cruz) Davis; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and fourteen siblings.
