Obituary

Millie Wyant passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2023 at the age of 96.  She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 28, 1926 to Carl and Mabel Alexander and was the eldest of 6 siblings.  Family was important to Millie.  She married Ralph Wyant in 1947.  They were married for 60 years and raised 3 boys.

Millie's hobbies and interests included family, gardening, and hiking.  She started hiking in her mid-60's and fell in love with the Grand Canyon, hiking it many times all the way up to age 88.  She hiked all the way to the bottom and back out on 3 occasions, the last time at age 76. She also went on several multi-day backpacking trips, including 8-day and 10-day trips in California's Sierra Nevada mountains.

Millie loved gardening and had a special place that she called her “secret garden”.  Plants flourished there under her care.  She had a strong faith and loved the Lord.  She enjoyed attending church and bible studies.  She loved life and people with all her heart, was treasured by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Millie is survived by her 2 sons, Dave (Cindy), Greg (Chris), granddaughter Sara (Brandon) and two great-granddaughters Rhea and Theia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and her son, Steve.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 18 at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis.  Visitation will be from 10am-12pm with the service at 12pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

As my dad’s oldest sister, my aunt was the movie- making queen of family gatherings. I remember her creative & humorous home movies of family members appearing ‘magically’ from behind a large tree in the yard. She had my little sister growing up in her high chair! Kind, generous and full of love, she is someone we’ll miss dearly and never forget.

We were so blessed to know Millie as a member of Bartlett Chapel and a participant in our Women's Bible Study group. She was so knowledgeable of the Bible and a great contributor to the study. We admired her healthy lifestyle and enjoyed hearing about the adventures she and Ralph had together. We really missed seeing her when she moved to Greenwood but enjoyed seeing her posts on Facebook. I am sure she was welcomed in heaven by her savior, Jesus.

I remember Millie as being the loving matriarch of the Alexander family that welcomed my son into her family. It's a blessing. She left her mark on this world with love, family and faith.
