Obituary

Dorothy B. Melton Thorne, 91, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on April 3, 2024. Dorothy was born at home in Tyner, Kentucky on March 3, 1933, to the late Charlie and Nancy (Robinson) Melton. She graduated from Tyner, KY schools in 1951. Dorothy retired from RCA, Indianapolis, IN and then she worked at a Mom & Pop restaurant in Reelsville, IN. She loved gardening, having a pretty yard, watching the squirrels, and feeding birds; her favorite birds were hummingbirds and cardinals.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frederick Charles Thorne; son-in-law Eddie Lee Massey Sr; and five great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Jean (Smith) Massey; sons Charles Edward Smith and William Arthur (Julie) Smith; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; 2 stepchildren and five step- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 4:30 PM, Monday, April 15, 2024 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 with a visitation from 3:00 PM until time of service. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 16, 2024 Liberty Cemetery 838X+HC, Maulden, KY 40486.

I was so sorry to learn of Dottie's passing. I lived across the street from her with my Mom. Following Mom and Fred's deaths, Dottie and I became good friends. During the summer I liked to grill out. Whenever I asked Dottie what I should put on the grill for her, the answer was always the same....hot dogs!! I will miss my friend and every time I see a hummingbird I will think of her.
