Donna Stewart

Donna Joan Stewart, 90, of Indianapolis, IN. passed away on August 23 rd , 2026. She was

born to Pinney and LaVerne Sommers on June 8 th , 1936. She was raised on a farm in Kouts, IN

with her parents and younger brothers, the late Ron and Tom. After graduation from Kouts H.S.

in 1954, she attended Purdue University, majoring in Home Economics. She met and married her

college sweetheart, Philip on June 8 th , 1957. They were married almost 67 years. They began

their lives together on the west side of Indianapolis and remained until their deaths. Donna was a

devoted mother to three daughters. She was a classroom volunteer, Girl Scout, and 4-H leader.

She enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress creating beautiful

clothing for herself and her daughters. Donna was a member of the Homemaker Club with her

dear friends for many years. She was a long-time member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist

Church. She participated in the annual Church Bazaar every November. Donna and Phil always

enjoyed watching televised Boilermaker football and basketball games. She also made an effort

to support her grandsons in their athletic games.

As the family meant the world to her, special occasions, holidays, vacations, etc. were

very important. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Steve) Hall, Laurel (Brad) Mercer,

Nancy (Mike) Scearce. Grandsons, Brandon (Cara) Scearce, Bryan Hall, Austin (Trinity) Scearce

and great-grandchildren Trentin, Alana and Conner.

Visitation will be at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 West 10 th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46224, Saturday,

August 29 th , 11:00am- 1:00pm. Interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery, 5252 West 52 nd Street,

Indianapolis, IN 46254.
