Obituary
Frank H. Holland, Jr. 61, died peacefully on July 8, 2009. He was born on July 30, 1947 to Frank and Virginia Holland. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark. He had a very kind and generous heart and spirit and loved his family, friends and nature. Frank was an avid IU fan and fisherman; and especially enjoyed his trips to Dale Hollow. He is survived by his sisters, Pat (Don) Roti, Jeanne (Steve) Winter and Elizabeth Holland; brothers, Joe Holland and John (Melissa) Holland; along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 13, 2009 at Washington Park North at 11:00 a.m., where burial will follow. Contributions may me made to the Ornithology Center co Eagle Creek Park Foundation, 7840 W 56th St, Indpls, IN 46254. Frank, As I write these very lines, I'm looking at two pictures of you, which were taken in August 1965 during our 45rpm demo recording session in a studio at the old WIFE radio station building. I've also been listening to 60s music in your memory -- many of them songs that we played. Yet, somehow, I think that Don McLean's opening words to American Pie (1972) seem fitting: "A long, long time ago I can still remember how that music used to make me smile; and I know if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance and maybe they'd be happy for a while..." Well...did you ever make them dance, and what incredible fun we had. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, my friend, and your great generosity. You won't be forgotten. Phil

My sympathy to Frank's loved ones. I, too, am a member of Frank's LCHS Class of '65. I have such fond memories of him as a beautiful, sweet boy. I'm saddened he is gone so soon.

Frank was an exceptional drummer with a unique style that no one else ever duplicated. He was an original musician and a good soul. We stated playing in a band called the "Surfing Birds" when I was in Junior High. This was before the Hollands moved across the street from Lawrence Central High School. There wasn't much Surf in Lawrence, Indiana in those days so we changed the name to the Chancellors. Frank was 3 years older than me and I looked up to him and learned a lot from him. His parents were very kind to me at a time when it mattered. Frank and Virginia Holland raised Frank Jr. to be a kind and gentile human being and I love them all. I can shut my eyes now and hear Frank singing some of his creative verses to "Louie Louie" in about 1964. I love you Frank and I will miss you. Arlin Troutt
