Obituary

Janet Susan Hosp was born in St. Louis, MO to George Harrison Dailey, Sr. and Mildred Mae Dailey on December 8, 1955.  She passed away in Indianapolis, IN on September 16, 2024.

She graduated from Cahokia High School in 1973 and attended Belleville Area College, where she pursued her passion for art.

She married David Hosp in 1976. They were married for 20 years and remained best friends for 52 years.

She moved to Indianapolis, IN in 1976.  A few years later, she started her family and then her career as a floral designer.  She operated Jan Hosp Design and Consultation for over 30 years.  In that time, she brought beauty to countless weddings around Indianapolis and special events at Butler University, as well as events for the McKinney Law School and Doctors and Nurses Alumni at IUPUI.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wonderful friend to many.  Her family and friends enjoyed 10 more years with her after she received the gift of life from her hero, Michael “Micky” Chadbourne in 2014.  After her double lung transplant, she was a tireless advocate for the Indiana Donor Network and Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.  She was a joyful, kind woman who knew no stranger and had a penchant for bursting into song.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents George and Mildred Dailey, her sister Nancy Dailey, and best friend David Hosp.

Janet is survived by her son John Hosp and daughter-in-law Christine Hosp; grandson Matthew Hosp and granddaughter Isabelle Hosp; son Michael Hosp and daughter-in-law Katelyn Coyne; brothers, George (Kate) Dailey, Jr. and Keith (Kathy) Dailey.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, a visitation will be held at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Speedway at 9:00AM, followed by a mass at 11:00AM.  A procession to Crown Hill Cemetery will follow, where she will be laid to rest at 12:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, Jan invites donations to the Franklin Strong Scholarship Fund, in honor of her donor Michael “Micky” Chadbourne, or to St. Christopher Catholic Church.

Thank you to the IU Health Lung Transplant surgeons, doctors, and nurses.  A special thanks to Dr. Roe, Dr. Gutteridge, Dr. Greenspan, and Kathy Decker for all your care.

John and Mike, thank you for sharing your mom with me. What an amazing and talented woman. She was my dear friend for 36 years and I can’t tell you what a blessing she has been to me. She truly loved life and people. Whenever life threw her a curve, she fought with all of her might and didn’t give up. She taught all of us about faith in Christ and the power of prayer. Jan was one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. She was always so optimistic and upbeat and could always see the good in people and situations. Many people ask how you’re doing but Jan actually cared to know. I will always remember her for her kindness, love, and faith.

Jan was my grade school and high school very best friend. We enjoyed going to each other's houses and our moms were like extra moms to each of us. She was so full of life and faith. We lost touch with each other over the years but we never lost our friendship and memories. Jan was an inspiration to alot of people and she will be greatly missed. Condolences to all the family and friends that loved her and she loved so much!

I’m gonna miss my sister-in-law she left us way too soon.I’ll always remember when I would visit my brother and Jan would be doing housework she would break out in a loud verse of Hallelujah ….. Hallelujah….Hallelujah. She was the best.
