Obituary
Mary McFarland, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 4, 2010. She was born on November 20, 1925. She worked for 9 years at Crestwood Village West as a Building 5 manager. Prior to that, she worked for 12 years as a housemom for the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Butler University. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Charles W. McFarland. She is survived by her son, Larry (Thea) McFarland; daughters, Julia (Rudy) Schwenk and Nancy McFarland; grandchildren, Alex McFarland, Katherine (Kris) Tucker, Zachary and Lindsay Schwenk. Funeral services will be held at Stevens Mortuary & Family Center, Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Visitaton will be held at the mortuary Wednesday, July 7 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Washington Park North Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Alzheimers Association. www.stevensmortuary.net

Mary was the House Mom at the Pi Beta Phi house my sophomore through senior years. She was the person who helped build our confidence before a date and told us we looked beautiful and she was the person who let us cry on her shoulder when the date didn't go well. She was truly a wonderful lady. We enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up! I could go on and on but truly I hope her family knows that she meant the world to all the Pi Phis at Butler! She became out Mom away from home!!
