Obituary
Culmer "Doney" King 88, of Indianapolis, passed away August 5, 2011. He was born in Clinton, Indiana. He graduated Washington High School in 1942. Doney was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 1983 after 35 years from Spector Freight. Doney was an All City athlete in three sports. He played semi-pro baseball and softball for 20 years and was a member of the Softball Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. He also coached many years for both CYO and KSKJ. Doney was a recipient of the St. John Bosco Award. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth. Survivors include daughters, Cindy (Glenn) Young and Beth King; sons, Don (Terrie) and Chris King; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. in Stevens Mortuary and Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 11 at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at St. Vincent Hospice. The Burkert Copeland family was saddened to hear of Doney's passing. He and my dad, Donald Burkert had many good times together both at Washington High School and much later after their spouses, Betty and Virginia passed. The Legion Post will never be the same without their antics.
