Obituary
Justin A. Urbancic, 94, of Indianapolis passed away October 14, 2013. He was born February 21, 1919 in Indianapolis, IN to Anton and Francis (Pozar) Urbancic. Justin attended Arsenal Technical High School and later became self-employed at Allied Electrical Supply Company from 1947 - 2000. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the Northern Apennines and Po Valley, Italy. He was a member of the Slovenian National Home, Holy Trinity Slovenian Catholic Church, SNPJ, Moose Lodge, Yaggers Club and the Optimist Club. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eva Lorraine (Brown) Urbancic and daughter, Diana Andrix. He is survived by his daughter, Kay DeHart; son, Michael A. (Ann) Urbancic; sister, Bertha Gorka; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18 from 4 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 10:30 am in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 901 N. Holmes Ave., Indianapolis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Slovenian National Home, 2717 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46222.

Jazzy's colorful and good natured attitude always made our events much more fun. His vanishing cigarette act was priceless. Your fellow Yagger brothers salute you. Rest in Peace Good Friend.

To the Urbancic Family: Please accept our sincere sympathy on the passing of Jazzie. Your father was stationed with our father in Italy during the war and they became good friends. During our father's very serious stroke in the early 1990's Jazzie visited our father several times, until he passed away. We were very grateful for Jazzie's visits. He was a great person. I grew up with Mike through the Holy Trinity grade school years and learned a lot from both his mom and dad.
Mr. Urbancic invited me to be with Mike and him on a lot of adventures and those memories will live on forever with me. His passing has caused me to reflect on a few of those and I think a lot of those moments had a bearing on who I am today. I'll miss this man.
Here are a few of those:
# An Optimist Club meeting at the Brown County Inn, 1966. Influenced me on public speaking, other kids my age outside of my hood and culture, and the patience it took to make enough popcorn for a dozen 13 yr old boys.
# "2001 Space Odyssey" movie premier at the Indiana Theatre, 1968. Not what I was expecting, but who did. A classic. And the orange drinks during intermission in the grandiose lobby was high society.
# My first job (other than a paper route) working at his Allied Electrical company, 1969. Packaging rolls of black friction tape with an attention to product sku, carefulness, and timeliness. And owning your own business.
# "Patton" another movie premier at the Indiana Theatre, 1970. The opening scene over the red velvet curtains had left an impression on me of the power in presentation. And how a warning was achieved through flashing his car's brights at people preparing to open their car doors to his car's path on a congested Washington street.
# Nash, 1980. Once he overheard me telling my mom and dad that Jan and I were getting married in six months, "Jazzy" had her out on the floor dancing to a polka.
# Slovenian Picnic, 2010. Colorful, energetic, empathetic, creative, it can still all exist at an older age.
I'll miss this man.
