Obituary
Paul Earnest Howard, 81, of Indianapolis passed away May 15, 2014. He was born July 20, 1932 in New Albany, IN son of Henry and Leah (Ehlers) Howard. Paul graduated from Versailles High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954, private 1st class. He married Florence (Bobbie) Mott Kinkade on August 8, 1953. She preceded him in death in August of 1998. Paul worked from Seagrams Distillery and the Indianapolis Star and News. He had a franchise of his own with the Jewel Tea Company for many years. Paul retired in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion, Speedway Moose Lodge, Optimist Club, Lions Club and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Olean, IN. He is survived by two children, Paul Robin (Karen) Howard and Kathleen Howard of Indianapolis; sister, Doris (Ben) Hippensteel of Kokomo; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and his loving dog, Sugar. Two step-children, Delbert and Michael Kinkade, precede him in death. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18 from 4 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19 at 11 am also in the mortuary. Interment will be held in Floral Park Cemetery.

in the mid 70's we spent time camping with our young children. some fellow campers showed us the sandwich makers for a campfire that they had gotten from a Jewel Tea man. I had seen this Jewel Tea truck in the neighborhood. I watched for the truck and flagged it down. paul sold us the sandwich makers and returned to our home every two weeks until he retired. he always talked about Bobbie and his children. by the time he retired our children were grown, but he still asked about them. we have missed those bi-weekly visits from Paul, who became more of a friend than a salesman.

I had not seen Paul for many years. Last year I had the good fortune to see him on a gambling bus, of all places. Back in the 1960's and 70's, Paul and I competed against each other on the bowling lanes in several houses on the westside of Indpls. I enjoyed bowling against Paul as he was a great competitor. I remember Paul had many friends and everyone liked his laugh. That day on the bus, we talked about the "olden" days and remembered many old friends. Today, I am so glad we were able to spend those few moments together with memories. My condoleces to Paul"s family.
