Charles T. Stevens, 72, of Speedway, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, in Indianapolis. Born on October 15, 1952, in Indianapolis, Charles lived a life defined by faith, humility, and service to others.  Known to most people as Charlie, he had an inviting smile and infectious grin.

Charles was the beloved son of the late Charles and Marie (Kalil) Stevens. He is survived by his daughter, Casey (Eric) Roell, and his son, Jay Stevens, and Jay's fiancée, Kassie. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kaden, Madison (Burnett) and Rilee Stevens, and Myah, Abram, Lillian, Lucas, Sofia, and Samuel Roell. Charles's siblings, Kathleen (Milton) Dean, Phyllis Cooper, and Michael (Cathy) Stevens, were an integral part of his life, as were his nieces and nephews, Tara Cooper, Catie (Matt) Crosetto, Eric Cooper, Mike (Amanda) Cooper, and Michael (Nicole) Stevens. He also cherished his great-nieces, Emma Cooper and Leighton Stevens.

Charles's love for golf began in 8th grade when he worked as a caddie. His passion for the sport flourished, and the golf team won the City Tournament his senior year at Cathedral High School in 1970. He graduated from Indiana University in 1974 and went on to become a CPA. After retiring, he enjoyed a second career as a card dealer at the casino, where he brought his sharp mind and warm personality to his work.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Santo Rosario Council 14449 and 4th Degree Bishop Chatard Assembly 0245. Charles exemplified the organization's values of charity, unity, and service. He was a former board member for Lumen Christi Catholic School and an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Charles's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and inspiring his dedication to helping those in need.

A lifelong resident of Speedway, Charles attended St. Christopher School, where he began building the strong community ties that would define his life. He was an avid golfer, a lover of 50s, 60s, and 70s music, a dancer, and a euchre player. Charles's love for sports extended beyond the golf course; he was a devoted fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the IU Hoosiers. He especially cherished watching his grandchildren play baseball, basketball, and dance, always a big supporter.

Charles's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and dedication. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.

A viewing will be held at Stevens Mortuary on Sunday, January 19th from 12 – 4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 20th, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10am. Donations can be made to Lumen Christie Catholic School in Charles's honor, continuing his legacy of care and giving.

Me and my family only had the pleasure of knowing Charlie for the last 7 years or so, but I so enjoyed every interaction I had with him. Charlie was a wonderful, humble man who persevered faithfully until the end. May he Rest In Peace.

I especially remember my cousin Charlie at Easter time, when the cousins would all gather at Grampa Stevens’ house to do an Easter egg hunt…we would all scramble around the back yard gathering as many eggs as our baskets could hold..but other fond memories abound with Charlie and his two sisters Cathy and Phyllis spending summer time and Christmas over at grampa’s house. I started working at the casino in Shelbyville as a semi-retirement job. That’s were I meet Charlie. We talked about one thing or another about every day we worked together. Sports, golf (of course), our political outlooks (we were similarly inclined!), any tax or accounting questions I might have and just any thing else that might come up. Charlie was a really good guy. I’m going to miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie. I was his neighbor on Worth for a couple of years when my Mom and Dad moved there after my sister and I graduated from HighSchool. Charlie was a good friend at IU to. He and I had fun playing Euchre with his friends at IU and with Dave Crumly his friend in Speedway on breaks from IU. My Mom and Dad discovered Charlies parents and my parents were from West Indianapolis I last saw Charlie at his Dad's funeral. He was such a good guy.

Charlie was such a delightful neighbor and we loved the couple of years we lived across the street from him! We enjoyed many evening chats with him after finishing a walk in the park and stopping by his porch at the end. He was so kind to our kids and always had a special treat he could grab from the house for our oldest son. We are so saddened to hear about his passing, but are grateful to have known him!
