Obituary
Thomas P. Carroll, 85, of Speedway, passed away on Monday, December 14. Tom was born on October 21, 1930, to Thomas Carroll and Mary Dalton Carroll. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, he worked briefly at the Indianapolis Star-News before enlisting in the Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Currituck for the duration of the Korean War. Afterward, he returned to the newspaper, working his way up in the photo engraving department to become the day foreman, retiring after 40+ years. Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Judy (nee' Patterson) and his two children, Kevin (Amy) and Suzanne. He was the extremely proud grandpa of Patrick, Andrew, Katharine and Madeline Kenny, and Christopher and Zachary Carroll. He is also survived by his brother John (Jack) and his wife, Shirley, his brother and sister in law, Dave and Brenda Patterson, and first cousins John and Alice Ann Davis, Dave and Diana Davis, and Mary Ellen Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom enjoyed his retirement by spending lots of time with his grandkids, volunteering at St. Christopher in various capacities, riding his bike and walking around Speedway, and playing cards, especially bridge and euchre, at various venues. He was a Colts and Pacers fan, and like any true Irishman, a supporter of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Gleaners Food Bank.

I was sorry to learn of Mr Carroll's death. He was an extremely delightful and engaging patient, I was honored to have had the opportunity to care for him over the last 15 years. He recovered remarkably from his pulmonary emboli in 2002. He had mitral valve insufficiency (leak ) for several years but did very well until he had new rupture of several mitral valve chordae (valve tethers) which caused a severe valve leak and congestive heart failure in October 2015. Unfortunately there was no way that his heart was going to be able to compensate for the severe mitral insufficiency(leak) with medical therapy. Since he was so active, even at age 85, I recommended mitral valve surgery. Initially he did well post-operatively, he looked great when I last saw him at the heart hospital. Unfortunately at age 85 if anything goes "wrong" post operatively, it is very difficult to recover. His outlook without surgery was bleak, so he was willing to consider surgery in order to have a chance to resume his previous lifestyle. I am sorry that things did not work out better, but I believe he made the right choice as he was never going to get better without mitral valve surgery. It was a pleasure to be able to care for Me Carroll for the last 15 years, I always enjoyed seeing him in the office or hospital. My condolences to you all, if you have any questions please contact me-although I am not familiar with his course after he was transferred to Seton.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends for the loss of your loved one. No doubt this is a time of great grief. Please do not underestimate the power of prayer. The true God in Heaven invites us to throw all of our burdens on him and he will sustain us. (Psalm 55:22). For more suggestions on how to cope with grief, visit www.jw.org.

My condolences to the family. The loss of a loved one is never easy but I hope you will be comforted by God's word the bible that says there is going to be a resurrection. Acts 24:15 says there is going to be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous, and with that promise it is possible for you to see him again. We are given more hope and comfort at Rev. 21:3,4 that talk about a restored paradise where the human family will have the prospect of enjoying life without end, free of sickness, disease and death as we welcome back our dear loved ones. May you be comforted by these bible verses and may you also be comforted by the many wonderful memories of Thomas your loved one at this most difficult time.
