Obituary

John E. Murphy 92, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025.  John was raised in Milroy, son of Virgil and Eliza Murphy.  John was an Army Veteran and graduate of Indiana University.  John was employed by Indiana University School of Medicine; retiring in 1997. John was a member of the Milroy Masonic Lodge #139, Scottish Rite and IU Alumni Association. 

John is preceded in death by his wife Laura (2007). He is survived by sons, John Jr. (Anne), Scott (Jody); grandchildren, Sean (Natalie), Amanda (Ryan), Jack, Alexa (Jaeden), Jesse; great grandchildren, Everett and Miles.  John was an avid IU Basketball fan and enjoyed fishing. 

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W 10th Street, Indianapolis.  Visitation will be from 10am to Noon on Saturday, March 22 with services immediately following. John will be laid to rest at West Ridge Park Cemetery.  

The family would like to thank the staff at Independence Village in Avon and CorsoCare Hospice.

Sending my condolences to John's family. We met at Westside Gardens when my Mom was there. John and Mom had fun playing weekly bingo and always wanted someone at their table to win!!

To The Murphy Family, Sorry to hear the passing of John. When I met John back in 1999 he always had a Big smile and welcomed me like I was part of the crazy Murphy family... RIP. John and GODSPEED

Whenever I sing “You Are My Sunshine” to my granddaughters I will think of you John. You were a sweet soul and will be missed.
