Obituary
James Jenks, 82, of Speedway, husband, father, brother, teacher, coach and friend passed away on October 3, 2016. Born 1934 in Chicago to Orra Mack and Ella Cronin Jenks. Jim served honorably and bravely in the U.S. Army, a graduate of Dana High School, Marian College and Indiana State University. Jim married Carol Welsh at Holy Trinity Church in 1959. His teaching and coaching career was at notable schools to include Holy Trinity, Scecina Memorial High School and Cardinal Ritter High School. He was also employed by St. Vincent Hospital. After his retirement in 1996, he was a volunteer for CYO, St. Vincent Hospital, Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center and Christian Awakening Retreat. He always “walked in God's shadow.” Jim is survived by wife Carol; daughters, Karen Jenks and Nancy (Fritz) Fentz; grandchildren Howard Scrougham and Rachel Fentz; brother, John and several nephews. He was preceded in death by parents and brother, Bill. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 with a rosary at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church 3354 W. 30th Street Indianapolis, IN with visitation from 10:00 Am until time of mass. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the VA Medical Center, Dr. Michael Sha, Jennifer, Magali and Andrew. Coach Jenks one of my favorite coaches at Cardinal Ritter. He was also my drivers ed instructor, Probably the reason my insurance rates are so high today. I use to tell everybody that I was the first 20/20 player to ever graduate from Ritter High School. When we were 20 points up and there was 20 seconds left in the game, Coach Jenks would glance up and down the bench and say Coddington go in for Dunn. He was also my favorite Golf coach at Ritter. Lot of golf stories over the years. Gonna miss you Coach R.I.P. Mr. Jenks Billy C Class of 70 CRHS

Mr Jenks was the best teacher I had at Ritter. He had a good sense of humor and taught us things we needed in real life. Told us to visit a courtroom to see how our justice system works. Told us to buy real estate/land because there was a finite amount. The world is a sadder place without him. -

To Carol and family
I am sorry that I cannot be with you during the most difficult time in your lives.
Carol please know that I will be thinking of you as always. I will never forget the wonderful laughs we had during our walks to the bus line going home from St Mary's. I tell everyone about those times as those were definitely some of the best days of my life.
I shed tears so often for Buddy and that is ok. It is a sign of love as well as sorrow and I know you will do the same often for Jim. My will be with you always. Love you Phyllis
