Obituary
Evelyn Joyce Layton, 91, of Indianapolis passed away on March 11, 2017. Evelyn was born in Indianapolis on October 10, 1925 to Harry and Cora (Brittan) Shaffer, both preceding her in death. In 2010, she was also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Paul C. Layton. Evelyn graduated Ben Davis High School in 1943. She was a member of the Bridgeport Eastern Star and Lynhurst Baptist Church. Evelyn was a Westside Indianapolis resident for 91 years. Her charitable heart lent her talents to those in need, and Evelyn had hand-made over 350 Chemo hats for patients at Hendricks Regional Hospital Cancer Center. She loved to play cards, crochet, knit, sew, bowl and paint. Evelyn often told one of her favorite memories was in 2003, when she won Best of Show in Crochet at the Indiana State Fair. Evelyn is survived by her children, Linda (Ron) Pfost, Cora (James) Johnson, Alan (Alice) Layton; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. She loved to spend quality time with her loving family and often shared the best advice - “When you get mad or upset with someone, don't stay that way, Life goes on!”

To Becca Pierpont Eddie, Mom Cora and family, With my deepest regret to hear of the passing of Grandmother Layton. I was blessed to finally meet Mrs. Layton in person Oct. 2016 after hearing wonderful stories for the past 19 years about what an awesome grandmother and great grandmother she was to Becca, Eddie, Jenna and Levi. Becca I know you and your entire family will miss such a lovely person as your grandmother. When I first met her I knew right away why you and your mom are so pretty, kind and sweet because you both look like your grandmother who is a beautiful lady both inside and out. She was so lovely to me, Jenee, and my mom when she first saw us. I will always remember her kind smile and sincere words of wisdom she spoke to us. Let not your heart be sad because she completed her journey here on earth and she is now resting with our Lord and Savior. We can smile as we remember her and find peace knowing one day we all will see her again! Now you all will have your Grandfather and Grandmother as your two angels watching over you! Our prayers are with you and your family! May God give you the strength to celebrate your grandmother's life as she was victorious and she completed her race.
