Thomas (Tom) Troy Sain

Indianapolis, IN - Thomas Troy Sain, age 97, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on June 2, 2025. To celebrate his life, family and friends are invited to Stevens Mortuary (5520 W 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46224) on Monday, June 9th, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:30 pm for visitation with recitation of the rosary at 8:30pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 10th, 2025, with viewing at 9:00am followed by a funeral mass starting at 10:00am at St. Christopher Catholic Church (5301 W 16th St, Speedway, IN). Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery.

Our dad was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina on March 12, 1928. He served in the Navy during WWII, stationed on the USS Orion (AS-18). Dad was a loving, caring, and devoted husband to our mom, Faye, for 71 years, who preceded him in death in 2022. For 97 years, he was THE BEST father to Nancy Tidd (Larry), Pat Fox (Charlie McIntyre), and Greg Sain (Lawanna). He was always there for us, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren for whatever they needed. Dad was preceded in death by his eight siblings and his grandchild, Stevie Smith Sain. Our Dad was a survivor having grown up in a sharecropper family in North Carolina. He was a successful businessman, who never boasted about his accomplishments, leaving school in the 6th grade to help on the farm after his father passed away. He was a devoted employee working for Dixon-Tom-a-Toe, a produce company for over 50 years. In his 97 years, Tom survived a serious car wreck, a fall down an elevator shaft, two serious open-heart surgeries, leukemia at the age of 80, and among many other health issues, always fighting and coming out stronger. He was an incredible role model and mentor not just in words but in how he lived his life, for his three children, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and all their spouses. Tom's enduring love for his wife was a testament to his loyalty and patience.  In addition, dad had many lifelong friendships with neighbors, church members, and colleagues, many lasting over 50 years.

During his working days, we moved like the military families, living in New Orleans, LA, Indianapolis, IN, Perrine, FL, West Palm Beach, FL, then back to Perrine, FL, living two summers in Digby, Nova Scotia, then locating back to New Orleans, LA and finally returning to Indianapolis, IN in 1971 where they settled down. Dad converted to Catholicism in the 1960s. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose, and the American Legion. He was also a parishioner at St. Christopher Church located in Speedway, IN for 54 years.

Dad was a gift to his entire family. Our dad loved his sweets, especially banana pudding, which he made himself for every holiday or party. He always had chocolate or candy in his pockets. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local veteran's group.
