Sandra was born in Indianapolis on January 28, 1950 to Alfred and Mary Schenk, both preceded her in death. Sandra worked as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital from 1970 until 1983 and then a rehabilitation nurse at Liberty Mutual from 1989 until 1992. She was active in church throughout her whole life attending Lynhurst Baptist in Indianapolis, Plainview Baptist in Crawfordsville, Lakeview Church in Indianapolis, and New Hope Baptist in Indianapolis. Sandra enjoyed working on craft projects and writing poems. Sandra was loved by many and will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents, and son, Andy Burkhart. She is Survived by her daughter Angye (Dwayne) Burkhart Brooks; brother Al (Linda) Schenk; sisters Linda (Phil) Butler, Cathy (Randy) Arsnoe and Sherry (Jeff) Adams; 16 nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in Sandra's memory may be made to the Parkinson Foundation at Parkinson.org.

A beautiful service for a beautiful person. I have many fond memories of Sandra, from being on her hands and knees and rocking in her crib to a beautiful woman. Although we were 1700 miles a part my family never lost touch with Mary and Alfred's family, for this I thank God. I think my fondest memory is when Sandra and Angye visited us in Tucson. We were able to see the love of a mother and daughter. One day during their visit Sandra was not feeling well, Sandra and I stayed home and Uncle Salty took Angye sight seeing. The next day when Sandra felt like going in the car Angye insisted we visit all the places she and Uncle Salty visited the day before because she didn't want her mom to miss out. We were one of the recipients of Sandra's poems. It was sent to us after her and Angye's visit to Tucson, titled "We'll Be Back".
I'm happy for Sandra, she is at peace. I long for the day when I will see her a again.
