Mary Kathleen "Kathy" Rivers, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. She was born on July 4, 1950, as Mary Kathleen Bufore.
Best known as Kathy, she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a second mother to many. With open arms and a full heart, Kathy offered love and support to anyone in need.
Creative and nurturing, she expressed her love through sewing and crocheting—treasured masterpieces that many in the family still cherish. Kathy found joy in the beauty of bright, blooming flowers and spent countless peaceful hours tending her vibrant garden. She especially loved camping and boating, often retreating to her grandson's cherished spot—fondly known as Anthony's Mountain.
Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Rivers, with whom she shared 35 years of love and 17 years of marriage; her sons Aaron and Erik Cass; her siblings Warren, Nancy, Shirley “Beth,” and James “Bow” Bufore; her adored grandchildren Erik, Tylor, Lori, Kathleen, Mary, Aiden, and Anthony; and her great-grandchildren Dalton and Kashton. She also leaves behind twelve of her thirteen nieces and nephews, each of whom she held close to her heart.
She is reunited in eternity with her beloved daughter Katie, her son Jeffery, her brothers George and Neil, and her sister Joyce “Jay.”
Loved deeply by her family and all who knew her, Kathy will be profoundly missed. Her kindness, creativity, and generous spirit live on in each life she touched.
