Obituary

Lois Marie Boyle was born May 19, 1953, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and lost her battle with cancer on Sunday November 18, 2018. She was the daughter of Howard and Eva (Brown) Bumgardner. Lois grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated from Ben Davis High School and received her 3-year Registered Nurse diploma from Marion County General Hospital.

Lois was passionate about helping others.  She spent most of her career in Cardiovascular Critical Care at Methodist Hospital caring for patients at the cutting edge of transplant, artificial heart and open heart surgery recovery.  She was also an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support for the hospital.  For 28 years she volunteered with Marion County 4-H as both a club leader and project leader.  She was an instructor in multiple disciplines with Marion County 4-H Shooting Sports, including IDNR Hunter Education and was a Training Counselor with NRA.  In this capacity she taught hundreds of children and adults firearms safety, responsibility, marksmanship and an appreciation for the outdoors.  As a muzzleloading instructor on the Indiana State 4-H Shooting Sports team, she trained instructors how to teach students in their own counties and touched the lives of thousands more. 

Lois was a talented amateur artist in multiple media including colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, oils and the written word.  She loved cooking, chess, science fiction, fantasy, spending time with her grandchildren and dog.

She was the beloved wife of Jerry Boyle for 38 years. She also leaves behind two children: Lalena (Peter) Messersmith and Jeremy (Vanessa) Boyle, and two grandchildren: James and Silzarin Messersmith; in addition to a large extended family.

I was one or her students and after 26 years in the Hunter Education there will be no one finer. The hope that the family and friends know that gods hands will bless you and comfort you in this time.

Lois was a great teacher and nurse. I worked with her several years on the night shift at Methodist Hospital. She taught me a lot about various equipment. Lois was very proud of her children We worked together while they were growing up. Praying for her family at this time.

I’m an so sorry for your loss . I remember Lois so fondly . She was a wonderful coworker . She allowed me to come and buy a few of your grandmothers hats. I’ll cherrish them so much. May God surround you all this holiday time with his Love ❤️ and grace.
