Obituary

Michael J. Alhand, 73, of Indianapolis passed away on July 4th, 2019, at home with his wife of 48 years, Elaine Renie Alhand at his side. Mike was born November 6, 1945 in Newport News, VA to the late Lee Alhand and Ruth Gauss Alhand. Mike was a Vietnam Veteran and a member of the United States Air Force.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Janet (Terry) Roos, Marilyn Benbow, and brother Leo Alhand, his sister-in-law Christine Renie, and brother-in-law, Larry Keller.  Mike leaves behind his wife Elaine, and her siblings Theresa Renie Frazer (David), Mark Renie (Denise), John Renie (Kathi),  Mary Renie Keller, Joe Renie (Colleen), James Renie (Barbara),  Barbie Renie Kinnett (Troye) and Donna Renie Androne (Al) and brother-in-law John Benbow  as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike volunteered at Big Brothers,  Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Guardian Angel Bassett Rescue and American Legion Post 34.

Services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 46th and Illinois. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 9th from 4pm to 8pm and 9am-10:30am on Wednesday July 10th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. This will be followed by Interment at Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Northside Events and Social Club 2100 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis IN 46220 from 2pm-5pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) 580 East Stevens Street Indianapolis IN 46203.

Elaine, we are so very sorry to hear of the passing of such a superior man Mike Alhand. Mike has and always will have a special place in our hearts for rescuing our Bella. His welcome party in heaven had to be the best with all those bassets to greet him and give him all the love he so deserves. God Speed Mike.

Elaine, I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. His fellow IHM class members were lucky to have see him one more time, and I was lucky to have lunch with him a few weeks ago. I was planning another lunch for this week, but God had other plans, I guess.

Mike will be greatly missed. Such a wonderful and kind man who I met through Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. I could always count on Elaine and Mike to pick up and drive to do a transport, on a moments notice. And his sense of humor was so great - at our Thank You party every year in Morris, he would introduce Larry, our CEO as his former parole officer. I'll miss you, my friend.
