Faye Gustafson

Faye Gustafson, a beacon of love and friendship, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 96 in Avon, Indiana. Born on April 7, 1929, in Allsboro, Alabama, Faye spent her life nurturing the bonds of family and friendship with a thoughtful and generous heart.

Faye was the embodiment of the Christian virtues she held dear, exemplifying love and kindness in every aspect of her life. Her warmth and compassion were evident to all who knew her, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy. Faye "adopted" every friend her children had and she was the mom who gathered every neighborhood child in her living room on those cold snowy Indiana mornings to wait for the school bus to come.  Faye is a cherished sister to Elizabeth Ann Keeton and Brenda Freeman; a devoted mother to Anne Gustafson and Nancy Gustafson; and an adored aunt to her two nieces, one nephew, and the seven great-nieces and nephews that brightened her days. In 1977, Faye was preceded in death by her son Eric; and in 2014 her loving and devoted husband Dale.

Throughout her life, Faye found solace and joy in the art of quilting, creating beautiful tapestries that were as colorful and intricate as the stories she shared. Each stitch was a testament to her patience and attention to detail, qualities that she applied to every facet of her life. Her quilts were not just blankets; they were stories woven from fabric, each one a legacy of her loving spirit. She belonged to many quilt clubs and went on retreats twice a year with her closest quilting friends, lovingly known as her Quilt Posse.

As a true testament to her character, Faye was often described by those who knew her as loving, friendly, and thoughtful. She approached every person she met with an open heart and a kind word, believing firmly in the power of kindness. In her later years, Faye loved sitting on her front porch and chatting with neighbors or passersby.  Everyone was welcome on Faye's front porch.

Faye's unwavering faith guided her through life's challenges and triumphs, and was always ready to extend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her legacy is one of unconditional love and selfless service, and she leaves behind a tapestry of lives touched by her gentle spirit.

Faye exuded Southern Hospitality, she was Southern Charm, and even though she lived in the North for over 70 years, the "y'all" never left her. As we bid farewell to Faye Gustafson, we celebrate a life that was rich in love and friendship. We take comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the beautiful quilts that adorn their homes—a patchwork of memories that will wrap her family in warmth for years to come. Faye's journey on earth may have ended, but her story will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in honor and memory of Faye be made to the family to help with future medical expenses of her disabled child.
