Obituary
Dorothy Medich Milivojac, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. Born in Indianapolis on January 4, 1941, to Robert and Francis Medich, Dorothy's life was defined by love, faith, community, and an unshakable joy that touched everyone she met.
On November 25, 1961, Dorothy married Bogdan Milivojac, and together they built a family rooted in love, tradition, and laughter. She is survived by her son, Mirko Milivojac, and daughter-in-law, Marija Milivojac; her beloved grandchildren Nina (Milivojac) and Matthew Fox, and Dara Milivojac and Hayden Filipovich. Affectionately known as Baba, not only to her grandchildren but to countless others in the community, she was cherished as a mother and grandmother figure to many.
A lifelong educator, Dorothy proudly dedicated over 30 years of service to Indianapolis Public Schools, shaping young lives with patience, encouragement, and genuine care. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from Butler University, and never tired of sharing stories from her classroom or connecting with former students and fellow teachers over the years.
Dorothy's heart and soul were deeply tied to St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, where she was a pillar of the community. She served as a devoted Sunday school teacher, a leader of the Kolo (ladies group), the first female president of the church board, and a tireless volunteer at every event - from fish fries to Serb Fest, where she was often the friendly face greeting guests and selling tickets. Whether at the annual rummage sale or preparing for church celebrations, Dorothy's warmth, hospitality, and boundless energy were unmatched. Music was another deep love of hers. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Jovan Dučić Choir, where her voice could be heard every Sunday. She was a proud godmother, a steadfast friend, and a woman whose faith was lived out through service and love.
She adored her family, her dogs and grand-dogs, and the community that surrounded her. Known for her positivity, acceptance, and the way she never met a stranger, Dorothy radiated love and kindness to all. She truly was the embodiment of joy, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void.
Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, godmother, and friend. She will be missed dearly, but her light will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Services will be held at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church (7855 Marsh Road Indianapolis, IN 46278). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Additional visitation will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. immediately followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon in honor of Dorothy will directly follow. Interment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery(415 N. Holt Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46222) at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church Building Fund in Dorothy's honor.
