Obituary

Adela was born on Saturday August 16, 1947, in Zaragoza, Chihuahua, Mexico to Petra & Francisco Garcia. She was the first-born daughter of 8 children.  Adela and her family moved to El Paso, Texas when she was a young girl and there she and her siblings were raised and attended school.

Adela met her first husband Don Kirk and moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma where they welcomed their first-born child, son Edward in 1965. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and in 1967, they welcomed their second child and first-born daughter Suzanna.

Adela was hired at the General Motors plant in Indianapolis in 1973, where she initially worked production. This is where she met her second husband, Donnie Turner. They married in 1975 and welcomed Adela's third child Sheila later that year.

Throughout the years, Adela prioritized her family over everything. Raising and taking care of her children was what her whole entire existence revolved around. Rather it was pee-wee football for Eddie, 4-H Club for Suzanna, or field trips and overnight outings for Sheila, best believe Adela was there and rooting for her babies to be the best that they could be. She could not stress enough the importance of love, being compassionate and loyal with family.

Even Eddie, Suzanna, and Sheila would call Adela "mom" because of her kindred spirit. She took care of anyone that would walk through her door.  She took in friends of her children, that had issues at home, or nowhere to stay. Looked after them, fed them, sheltered them, protected and loved them like they were her own. Truly a person that would literally give the shirt off her back to someone in need. 

She continued to work at General Motors throughout the years of raising her children, and finally retired after 31 and a half years, as a Forklift operator in 2004. She retired so that she could be home to take care of her grandchildren and that is exactly what she did. She enjoyed having her grandchildren with her whenever she could, making trips back home to El Paso to visit with her siblings and family, trips to the casino (any casino) and weekend restaurant outings with her family.

In 2010, Adela suffered from a stroke and ultimately, her health remained on the decline from then. She was diagnosed with Dementia in 2023, earlier in 2018 she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, which she eventually succumbed to.

On Saturday May 30, 2026, The Lord called Adela home to rest at 8:25 am. She was 78 years 9 months & 14 days. 

Adela was survived by two daughters Sheila Turner of Indianapolis IN, Suzanna (Gregory) Brown of Indianapolis IN, seven grandchildren Christopher (McKenzy) Bowers of Austin TX, Kayla Wheat of Indianapolis IN, Charles (Ashlee) Garrett of Indianapolis IN, Mariah (Dimitry) Pryor of Mount Dora FL, India Fletcher of Charlotte NC,  Robert Jones of Indianapolis IN, Justin Wilson of Indianapolis IN, nine great grandchildren Daveon, Brittany, Jadis, Hezekiah, Jeremiah, Taylor, Michael, Legend and Hendrix.  Siblings Victor (Irma) Garcia of Alhambra CA, Marcel Garcia of Terre Haute IN, Sylvia (Steve) Martinez of El Paso TX, Larry (Blanca) Garcia of El Paso TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son Edward Kirk in 2019, Mother Petra Garcia in 2013, sister Francisca Garcia in 2010, and Father Francisco Garcia in 1983.

Private memorial will be held by the family on Sunday June 7, 2026. Cremation services are entrusted to Stevens Mortuary.

When a life full of potential is cut short, the grief can feel overwhelming. During these moments of deep sorrow, it is natural to look for a source of genuine strength. We can find true reassurance in the scriptures, which reveal the character of our Creator and heavenly Father. The Bible beautifully describes God as "the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials." (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4) He sees your tears and deeply cares about the pain you are experiencing. God’s Word provides profound comfort, revealing what happens to our loved ones who have passed away, and giving us a solid hope for the future. Notice the words of God's Son, Jesus Christ, at John 11:11-14, regarding the death of his close friend, Lazarus: "Lazarus our friend has fallen asleep, but I am traveling there to awaken him.” The disciples then said to him: “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well.” Jesus, however, had spoken about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. Then Jesus said to them plainly: “Lazarus has died." Thus, the Bible compares death to a deep sleep. Knowing this brings peace, as it confirms that no one is suffering or in pain, but is safely resting. Furthermore, the Bible offers a beautiful, forward-looking hope that can sustain us through our mourning. Death is described in the scriptures as an enemy, but it is an enemy that God promises to erase completely (1 Corinthians 15:26). We can look forward with confidence to the fulfillment of the wonderful promise found at Revelation 21:4: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Jesus also gave us a reassuring guarantee regarding our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death, stating that "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28, 29) This promise of a resurrection to life on a peaceful, restored earth ensures that we will be reunited with our loved ones in the future. May your family, along with friends, find comfort, resilience, and peace in these scriptural promises during the difficult days ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. With deepest sympathy,
