Obituary of Mary Edith Martin

Mary Edith Beaver Martin, 97, of Indianapolis, was called to heaven on April 4, 2024.

Born August 22, 1926, in Indianapolis, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of Charles and Beulah Byrd Beaver.  She married Laurel E. Martin on March 19, 1950, at Morristown Methodist Church in Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1996.

Mary was known for her good humor, kindness, and ability to adapt.  She enjoyed reading, entertaining, and visiting people.  Mary was a graduate of Whiteland High School, in Indiana.  She was active in the North Salem Christian Church, serving in several positions.  She was in the Eastern Star at North Salem from 1950 until 1993. Mary retired from North Salem Schools after twenty-five-and-a-half years of service. She was also a farm wife and worked for Martin’s Greenhouse and Florist for over twenty years, for the town of North Salem as Deputy Clerk Treasurer for a short time after retirement, and for State Auto Insurance prior to marriage. 

Survivors include children, Beverly (Tom) Martin of North Vernon; Diane Sanders (Steve, deceased) of Indianapolis; and Duane Martin of Indianapolis; grandchildren Todd (Vanessa) Martin of Columbus; Lara Martin of North Vernon; Aaron (Lorinda) Gibbs of Pittsboro; Harrison (Kimberly) Martin of Fort Wayne; and Lillian Martin of Danville; step-grandsons Tyler (Nikole) and Logan (Sandriana) Sanders; and great-grandchildren Tabatha and Owen Martin, Lane and Ava Gibbs, Leander Martin, and Sophia Sanders. One surviving sister, Dorothy Beaver Pedigo, lives in Colorado, and a sister-in-law, Norma Beaver, is in Alabama.  Mary also has many beloved nieces and nephews.

Deceased siblings included twin brother Roy, plus Charles and Walter Beaver, Paul Jackson, Ruth Beaver Goodwin, Mildred Beaver, James McGunnegil, Russell Kinnick, and Arvetta Kinnick Tinkle.
