Obituary of Jay Edward Garner

Jay Edward Garner, 53, of Indianapolis passed away October 8, 2015. He was born August 27, 1962 in Indianapolis, IN to Junior Edward and Elizabeth Winters Garner. Jay proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1981 – 1987. He worked at Allsource/Nimbo IP for 26 years. Jay also served his community as a junior high and travel softball coach for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, as well as an all-around sports fan (Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame, IndyCar). He loved his family and friends and was considered a fun loving teddy bear. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Garner; daughters, Kayla Garner and Holly (Andrew) Holt; grandson, Cooper Holt; sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Clore and Sharon (Richard) Schroeder and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12 from 1 pm – 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13 at 11 am in Speedway Junior High School, 5151 W. 14th St., Speedway. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Little Red Door, 1801 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202 OR The Jimmy V Foundation, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513. For those attending the visitation and funeral services, the family respectfully requests no black attire; sports attire encouraged.
